Understanding Electricity Units (kWh), Wattage & Consumption Formulas
Electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) across India bill residential and commercial consumers based on the number of Units consumed during the billing cycle. According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), 1 Unit of electricity is exactly equal to 1 Kilowatt-hour (1 kWh). That means consuming 1,000 Watts of electrical power continuously for one full hour.
$$\text{Units (kWh)} = \frac{\text{Watts} \times \text{Hours}}{1000}$$ Convert any device wattage and running duration directly into billed kilowatt-hours.
$$\text{Cost (₹)} = \text{Units (kWh)} \times \text{Tariff Rate (₹/unit)}$$ Multiply total units by your state DISCOM telescopic energy slab rate.
